La Tavernella, tucked into Via Ezio just a short walk from central Roman landmarks, offers a dining experience that feels like stepping into a warm neighborhood kitchen. This full-service Italian restaurant leans heavily into Roman classics, spotlighting traditional dishes such as Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe and a well-curated tris of Carbonara, Amatriciana, and Cacio e Pepe that reflect the city's culinary heart.

The atmosphere here balances friendliness with a touch of Roman bustle — it’s lively but never overwhelming, the kind of place where the staff’s warm, attentive service makes you feel genuinely welcomed rather than rushed. Evenings here can occasionally be enhanced by live music, adding a layer of relaxed, local charm that fits well with the rustic, softly lit interiors.

La Tavernella tends to attract a diverse crowd, from travelers discovering Roman cuisine for the first time to locals stopping by for reliable seasonal staples like Carciofo alla Giudia or freshly fried supplì. Those who appreciate pizza with a thin, light crust and generous toppings also find good company here, alongside classic desserts such as Tiramisù and Profiteroles that round out the meal with a sweet note.

This spot works best for casual dinners where the pleasure is in savoring authentic Roman flavors without the formality of high-end dining. Lunchtime visits are also ideal if you’re after a lighter pizza or a quick pasta, especially during warmer months when the hustle of the nearby streets spills through the doors.

Overall, if your idea of dining in Rome includes solid, traditional Italian fare served with genuine hospitality and a setting that feels both lively and familiar, La Tavernella is worth putting on your map.

The food was excellent and we were lucky enough to be serenaded by a wonderful guitarist and singer.

The best authentic food in Rome. Try Caccio e peppe, lamb chops, pizza and fresh deserts that the owner made

First time traveling to Italy and after hitting snooze when touch downed, woke up starving. Opened maps and found this amazing hole in wall on whim, and it did not disappoint. Walking through the front door was like walking into someone's kitchen and feeling right at home. Service was phenomenal, the atmosphere warm and jovial, and the food was delicious, hot and hit the spot. Tiramisu was the cherry on top to cap off the whole experience.

Really nice pizza with a very thin crust so it is quite light and with a lot of ingredients it is a perfect light lunch. Deserts were good especially tiramisu and profiterole with the lemon cake and nocce being below average taste. Still would recommend.

We ate here for dinner on the 29th of December. It was probably one of my favourite meals in Rome. We ate here after our Spa experience nearby. Everything from the homey environment, to his kind and inviting the staff were made this experience memorable. My favourite - believe it or not - was the starter. The Bruschetta aglio e olio. It was just perfect. Crusty, crunchy bread, drowned in quality olive oil, noticeably garlic aroma and taste, with pepper to finish. We dipped our potatoes croquettes in the leftover oil. It was just that delicious. Moving on to the mains, I was surprised with how saucy the Crostini was. But it was delicious. Although, be warned. The salmon they use is smoked, so if you’re not a fan of that smell, you may not enjoy it. But the sauce was just beautiful. Of course the Cacio e Pepe was also so delicious. And the Chocolate mousse was the perfect end to the meal. Honestly, I truly loved the place, and if we stayed longer (and closer haha) I would’ve asked to go back again. Must must must visit.

I love lasagna, it’s one of my favorite dishes. But I usually think of lasagna as a heavy dish. This lasagna was not heavy at all: it was a delightful, light and melt in your mouth experience. I recommend the lasagna but they also had other local dishes that looked amazing!!
